Douglas R. Engel
Born St. Charles, Illinois; admitted to the Illinois Bar 1968. Education: Northern Illinois
University (B.A. 1965); DePaul University (J.D. 1968). A principal member of the firm
between 1968 and 1986, Judge Engel took the bench in the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit
and served the judiciary for nearly twenty years before returning to the firm in an Of
Counsel capacity.
His knowledge and experience provide a significant resource
for the firm's other attorneys to draw upon, and he himself will occasionally handle
client matters as his schedule permits. Having spent most of his life living in the southern
DeKalb County community of Hinckley, Illinois, Doug is well familiar with the issues
facing such communities and their citizens and he has deployed his legal skills on
their behalf tirelessly throughout his career. He has served the public as Hinckley's
Village President, did work on a part time basis for the DeKalb County State's
Attorney's office (as First Assistant, chiefly handling civil matters) and otherwise
offers a wealth of experience for the service of the firm's clients as needed. He and his
wife, Nancy, have two grown children, Brad and Beth. Although still committed to their
respective careers, much of Doug and Nancy's time is currently spent participating
actively in the busy lives of their grandchildren.
